Luarsab I of Kartli

King of Kartli from 1527 to 1556, he led a long resistance against Persian Safavid encroachment. He died fighting the Persians at the Battle of Garisi in 1556 after a heroic last stand. His resistance became a touchstone of Georgian patriotic memory.
