Biography
King of Georgia from 1412 to 1442, he led a sustained effort to restore the kingdom after Timur's devastations, rebuilding cities, churches, and administration. Despite his efforts, the strain of restoration and pressure from regional rivals led him to abdicate and become a monk. After his death the kingdom would fragment permanently into Kartli, Kakheti, and Imereti.
