Demetrius I of Georgia

King of Georgia from 1125 to 1156, son of David IV the Builder. He defended his father's vast inheritance against Muslim counterattacks and consolidated Georgian power. He briefly abdicated in favor of his son David V before returning to the throne. He was also a noted poet and hymnographer.
